Enchanting castles & snow-capped mountains...

Romantic and mysterious, Bavaria provides the perfect location for the holiday of a lifetime. Enchanting castles, snow-capped mountains, traditional beer festivals, opera and high-tech industry all go to make Bavaria one of Germany’s richest regions, providing an abundance of experiences from the historical to the ultra modern.

T he beautiful city of Munich, known as the Paris of Germany, is Bavaria’s capital and largest city. In a glorious setting among mountains and Alpine lakes, Munich boasts some of Germany’s finest castles and museums including the Deutsches Museum, the world's largest museum of science and technology. A compact and manageable city, Munich is dotted with elegant parks and gardens, ideal for recuperation after a hard day’s sightseeing! Take the Altstadt Walking Tour which covers the main sites of the historic city centre including the castle and the Marienplatz. And for sheer fun don't miss the unforgettable Oktoberfest, one of Europe’s biggest and best parties. Nuremberg, Bavaria’s largest city after Munich, should not be missed. Painstakingly rebuilt after allied bombing reduced it to rubble during World War II, Nuremberg is a compact city, so walk around and visit the museums and churches containing a wealth of artworks.

I n Augsburg, Bavaria’s third largest city, take in some of the region’s finest churches and wonderful cafés, restaurants and beer gardens. Birthplace of poet, playwright and political satirist Bertolt Brecht, Augsburg is home to the Brecht museum, dedicated to the work of the artist. No visit to Bavaria would be complete without a visit to the Oberammergau Passion Play. Staged every ten years since 1632, it is the world’s longest running play. A mere half-hour train ride from Munich, Augsburg makes a perfect base from which to explore the Romantic Road. This route links a number of Germany’s most beautiful towns and cities. From Wurzburg in Franconia to Fussen near the Austrian border take in around a dozen cities including Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and Dinkelsbuhl, interspersed with breathtaking landscapes with gentle slopes and ever-changing stunning vistas. Why not rent a bicycle and truly experience Bavaria in all of its glory?
